Brainstorming for short essay:
After listening to the description in class of what the short essay should entail I have to be honest, I am a bit confused. When I think of the assignment for a short essay I think back to one of the first stories we read for class. "Some things about that day," was a short, well written and effective essay. That is what I thought this assignment was about. Tell a story with a limited amount of words.
Now we have to tell a story with some type of media. Thats where the confusion comes in. How is it an essay if we can make it a powerpoint presentation? How is it an essay if we make a video? I mean no disrespect when I ask these questions but I am just disappointed by the assignment. I registered for this class because I wanted to write. I took multi-media classes as an undergrad so I understand the way to incorporate media into the classroom. I don't want to complete the assignment incorrectly but I would just prefer to write the essay without the use of media. I believe that my words would speak for themselves and the story could be strong enough to stand alone with out the use of media.
My brainstorming for this essay:
-I spent 9 days in Italy last spring. There is so much I could write about and I would love to share a story from my experience there.
-I have a story I would like to write but the one thing that is holding me back is the fact that it might not be my story to tell. I am going to try to find a way to write it from a perspective that would give me cause to write the story.
I understand that this essay will be more difficult to write. I have to edit myself and really address what it is that I want to focus on and tell my audience.
